Kitsap Memorial State Park Fijian + Western Wedding | Seattle Wedding Photographer

Naomi & Geoff had such an incredible wedding. When she described the Fijian traditional elements that would be a part of their day I was fascinated and super excited to be able to capture it! The music, dancing and soul of this day was just beyond anything.

I knew we had a special connection from the get-go. I remember our FaceTime call right when we first met to talk about their wedding. My son was maybe six months old and sleep was — well — difficult. Even though I scheduled our call for the evening, he woke up and SCREAMED. I could either end it or grab him and bounce him around as we chatted. Not only did Naomi + Geoff totally roll with it, but they thought it was hilarious and pretty special. And for that, I thought they were amazingly special.

We did their engagement session (first seen here) out in the Cascades and got a chance to spend time together in one of the most beautiful parts of the world on a beautiful night. I’ll never forget it.

The wedding day was just incredible. If you’re planning a wedding there, make sure to take advantage of the incredible old growth trees for your ceremony area. The only decor they really had was two floral arrangements — the trees did the rest of the talking! Something else to think about it that when you have a wedding that requires ferry travel, make sure to think about accommodations! Naomi and Geoff had reserved a big block of campsites so people could really immerse in the PNW setting (and not have to drive anywhere).

Olymic Rooftop Pavilion at Hotel Ballard Wedding | Alma & Drew

There are just some days that I feel so, so, lucky to do what I do. Standing alongside Alma and Drew as they began their lives together was just joyful. Two super beautiful souls. None of the day felt like work for a second and it was incredible to be a part of it.

I was excited to finally capture a wedding at the Olympic Rooftop Pavilion in historic downtown Ballard. Seattle has many great neighborhoods, but Ballard is my favorite. Hotel Ballard is beautiful, and has the Rooftop Pavilion as well as Stoneburner. It feels classy, but it’s simple. I loved the view of the city from the rooftop.

They weren’t super traditional, so I wanted to try something a little nontraditional for their first look. I love some of the sharp corners in Ballard, and the angular buildings like MacLeod’s. I had them stand on either side and come around the corner at the same time (I think this came to me in a dream or in remembering something from Spice World. Either way I’m glad it came.). I loved it. It felt like equally presenting each other to the other person, a here we are on mutual terms. :)

My advice to couples is to schedule some golden hour portraits! It was so fun to head out with a couple of their closest friends to Discovery Park to get some sun-soaked moments before delving into the reception activities. It’s your wedding, so do whatever the hell you want!

Jardin del Sol Wedding | Rachel & Matt

When Rachel reached out about her wedding, the first thing I noticed was her Chicago are code. HELLO say no more I must photograph your wedding because we are kindred souls from the same homeland. Luckily the actual connection was there too so we said I do. And we did.

Though their venue was at Jardin del Sol in Snohomish, we started the day downtown at the Four Seasons for the groomsmen (I found it hilarious that they had this great room that they hung out in the night before, and then NO ONE slept there, and they all came back to get ready the next day), and the girls were at the Marriott Seattle Waterfront. Both had stellar views of the water, just down the way from each other.

Everyone finished getting ready at Jardin del Sol. It was a beautiful overcast day and everything was just GREEN. Jardin del Sol is just north of Seattle in Snohomish, which is known for its beauty. It’s a perfect garden wedding venue, without being too manicured or fussy. There is enough raw nature to create stunning bridal portraits and with all the amenities you want to have a wedding with ease. Jardin del Sol has tents already on site, so you don’t have to worry about rain on your wedding day.

My advice to couples getting married here is to think about having two bars! Rachel and Matt did and it made for great flow throughout the venue (and no lines). My other advice is to have a great planner and/or day-of coordinator. The Eventists ran this evening SO well. When you’re bringing in catering and other rentals, it’s best to have someone direct that.

My advice to photographers is to get into the outskirts of the venue as well as the more landscaped areas. Both offer beautiful spots for photos, and create variety.

Enjoy!
