Seattle Family Photographer | Candid Fall Session

Shooting family sessions is where I started and is such fun. Every family is so unique and I love for my sessions to take a kind of meandering path between a few posed, looking-at-the-camera card-worthy shots and then lots of in between time where personalities come out and serious kid magic happens. One of the biggest fears my clients have is whether their kids will behave and smile nicely and I actually never want that to happen! (Other than for like 5% of the photos.) I love to see their funny ideas. Kids are insanely creative and if you let them take the lead you will go to interesting places.

I loved this fall session at Discovery Park. A word of advice: if you want fall photos, it’s best to take them in September before rainy season hits! Also, if you’re open to an in-home session, they’re absolutely magical.

Seattle Family Photographer | Parr Family

I’ve loved following along with my clients as they grow their families. The ongoing relationships I get to build with people I come to care a lot about is one of the biggest perks of this job. Having a toddler myself, I understand the value of freezing time to capture his little dimple and chubby hands and sweet smiles so I can always look back and remember how it felt to love my son at this time. When I think about capturing it in photos, it’s so much more than just a couple shots to consider for a Christmas card. It’s nice to have a few photos where we’re all looking and smiling, but I want the LIFE stuff. The real stuff. The quirks and the looks and the interactions and the touches. I’ve always considered myself a lifestyle photographer, and value candid moments over posed ones, and since having my own baby that’s become even more certain.

Here’s a session from sunnier days with a family that I adore. Our boys are about the same age and growing with them has been a treasure. We shot these at Volunteer Park in Seattle, a great place for family photos because there’s so much to work with in such a small space. Note that even though the conservatory is really beautiful, a special photo permit is required to take pictures inside.
