Seattle Bright White Kitchen | Interior Photography and Video

I recently had the pleasure of styling and shooting a beautiful all white kitchen for Lux Design Builds. It was a fun-filled shoot day, and I'm sure you'll be amazed to see how this kitchen looks anything but sterile or boring! The detail in the hardware and finishes gives it a dynamic, layered look that’s absolutely gorgeous.

My favorite approach to photoshoots is to take an active part in the styling. Not only does accessorizing a space intentionally bring a visual edge, but it adds a storytelling element to the shoot that comes through in photos. I jokingly say that I’ve been preparing for this all my life, but I’ve been collecting unique home accessories since I was a teenager. Pieces that I bring to photoshoots live around my house and are constantly getting shuffled and rotated. I spend time with these accessories and they all have stories.

When I style an interior photoshoot, I look at the space beforehand in photographs and do some pre-planning. I collect pieces into a bit of a mood board and use that as a launching point for the rest of the accessories that I collect. I try to avoid over-planning and allow for some last minute changes once I’m on site on the photoshoot day. I always bring more than I need and make swaps based on the overall chemistry of the room.

A well-styled space will bring your eye through the photo intentionally, drawing the viewer to observe the design details in an authentic way.

Enjoy this beautiful kitchen!

Lux Design Builds does a great job gathering client testimonials (they have many happy customers). This video was created to show off their work and hear from their clients. I shot and edited this video as well! Adding interior design video coverage is a great way to show the space in a different way. I imagine all my favorite HGTV shows’ big “reveal moments” when I shoot video. It should feel aligned with the photos and take the viewer into the scene in a a fresh way.

Sleepwear That Makes Me Feel Like an Actual Thriving Lady

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to pajamas my MO had always been convenience and comfort over style. I wore the same cotton shorts and whatever tee for years and years. It never felt special, it always felt like resigning myself to blah-dom. I thought that stylish pajamas were uncomfortable (remember: flannel and lace nightgowns a la 1997, for my fellow millennials?).

Getting to the point: when this Lunya set arrived I was shocked at how much of this design is literally designed for my comfort. Not to mention the washable silk is absolutely gorgeous and the drape of the fit is stunning and falls somewhere between breezy and sexy. (The latter is a word I’m working on taking back from a youth in purity culture, and is feeling good and empowering to use these days.)

After satisfaction after a few spins in front of my mirror I knew the true test would be sleeping in this. Best. Sleep. Ever. The waistband has little grip beads so the shorts don’t twist and the top, even with the low v, didn’t twist and reveal a truly nude self in the morning.

Basically, you can have your cake and eat it too and be comfortable AND sexy and a full-ass grown adult woman thriving.

Shop the Lunya Washable Silk Tank Set and use the code GIFT-EMILYK20 for $20 off your order of $100.

Sleep well!

Summer Weekend Packing!

I’m heading over the pass for a much needed weekend away with @thedigs.co! Right in time for our first big heat wave, and honestly I’m READY. The whole Cle Elum/Roslyn/Suncadia area is always so magical. The last time we stayed it was winter, so I’m ready to soak up some sun and long and slow sunsets with my family. Now that there are four of us with different sleep needs and schedules, having a whole Airbnb house to ourselves is pretty essential. The Digs houses always have everything we need and are set up so well for families.

Here’s what I’m packing from day to night to exploring to poolside. Follow along with me all weekend as I vlog our trip!

Seattle Spring Trip Casual Packing List + City Guide

This spring, even though I’m not heading anywhere warm, I’m excited to take in all the great things that Seattle has to offer as the season hits. Our winters are so long and rainy, so when spring finally arrives with its blooms and miraculously blue skies, it’s like nothing else in the world! Not only does it get me excited to re-imagine my wardrobe, but also to make plans, see friends, and enjoy this amazing city!

Whether you’re packing for a Seattle trip or just need a couple fresh outfit ideas, here are a few looks, with some Seattle destinations in mind! Fun part: they’re all based around just two pairs of pants. And they’re not jeans. I have nothing against jeans, in fact I practically live in them — they literally go with everything. Sometimes it’s a fun challenge to leave the blue jeans behind and see how your clothes work with non-blue-jean alternatives.

Everlane has generously gifted me with some products, which I’ve noted below.

Here’s my pick for a travel day outfit. A longer car ride or a plane trip calls for comfort, and wearing pieces you’ll incorporate into your future outfits helps save on suitcase space.

Jeans (c/o)

Pullover

Sneakers (c/o)

First night/date night! (May I suggest Electric Cello in Georgetown?

Swapping out the top for something a little flirty (I love the tie on the back with this one!) and adding a heel takes the same jeans to a new level. Black jeans always feel a little edgy/sexy to me, and are perfect for a date night where regular blue jeans might feel unspicy.

Top (c/o)

Jeans (c/o)

Boots (similar)

This outfit is perfect for city adventuring, like taking a stroll through Pike Place, and catching an exhibit nearby at the SAM.

Vest

Tank

Jeans (c/o)

Sneakers (c/o)

This look is perfect for brunch at Cafe Flora followed by a stroll around University Village for shopping and coffee.

Shirt

Pants (c/o)

Shoes (similar)

Sling bag (c/o)

Take the look down a notch by swapping out the clogs for sneakers and unbuttoning the shirt over a tank for a casual feel. This is my pick for a stroll through Kubota Garden and checking out the newly renovated Third Place Books in the south end.

For any of these looks, I’d add this trench for an extra layer.

That’s all! Let me know what you’d add to the list for a perfect Seattle spring weekend! Also, check out my Instagram reel with all these looks!
